What Education is Needed to Become a Consulting Specialist?

To become a successful consulting specialist, typically a bachelor's degree is required. However, some employers prefer to hire those with a master's degree, such as an MBA. The education needed to be a consultant is usually in the fields of business, computer science, or accounting. When it comes to educational requirements for consulting specialists, there are several options.

Business, psychology, and computer science are all popular choices. A study of 1,292 resumes of consulting specialists revealed that the training requirements for consultants are subjective and flexible. Certification is not necessary to become a consultant, but it can be beneficial in demonstrating to employers that the consultant meets the standards for education, training, and experience set by the certification agency. Additionally, management consultants may specialize in a certain type of consulting such as healthcare, engineering, technology, government, or education consulting.
